Manchester United Football Club is an English football club based in Trafford in the Greater Manchester area and one of the most popular and successful teams in England and the world.

Manchester United are one of the biggest teams in the history of English football, having won 23 major titles since Sir Alex Ferguson became coach on November 6, 1986. In 1968 he became the first English club to win the Champions League Current Champions League, beating Benfica 4-1, winning the second Champions League in 1999, and third in 2008. In 1999 he was champion of the Intercontinental Cup against Palmeiras by 1 × 0. He is known as "Red Devils" as well as by abbreviations of his name such as Manchester Utd, Man United, Man Utd and United. In many places, it is referred to as "Manchester" or just as the "UNITED" referred to by the vast majority of fans, due to great worldwide projection of rival Manchester City. It is necessary to make it clear that, for the great majority of fans who know the history of the club, the term "Man U" is pejorative, since its origin dates from the time of the disaster of Munich, when the fans of other teams created songs exalting the Tragedy and the fact that several players have died.

Initially a mid-level club in English football, its history of achievement has been confounded by the long-standing trajectory of two coaches, both Scottish, both awarded the title of Sir after making the club conquer Europe: Matt Busby (who United from 1945 to 1969, plus a short period from December 1970 to early summer 1971) and Alex Ferguson, the club's greatest coach (he coached the club from November 1986 to May 2013).

Since the 1990s, the club has been one of the richest in the world and with the highest revenue among all football clubs, in February 2012 was ranked as the richest and most valuable club in any sport, with an estimated value of € 490 million (R $ 1.1 billion). Manchester United was one of the founders of the now defunct G-14, a group of the top clubs in European football, and its replacement, the European Club Association. The club was voted by FIFA the 2nd largest football club of the 20th century and the first of all English clubs. The Manchester Team is England's second-highest winner in the UEFA European Championship with 5 titles (3 Champions Leagues and 2 UEFA Super Cups), behind Liverpool only with 11 European titles (5 Champions League, 3 Europa Leagues and 3 UEFA Super Cups).
